Brief Description

Written as an extension of A Primer on Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) Second Edition, this easy-to-understand, practical guide covers advanced content on PLS-SEM to help students and researchers apply techniques to research problems and accurately interpret results. The book provides a brief overview of basic concepts before moving to the more advanced material. Offering extensive examples on SmartPLS 3 software and accompanied by free downloadable data sets, the book emphasizes that any advanced PLS-SEM approach should be carefully applied to ensure that it fits the appropriate research context and the data characteristics that underpin the research.

Key Features:

  • Coverage of advanced concepts demonstrates the PLS-SEM method as a viable alternative to the more popular CB-SEM approach and clearly shows students and researchers how they can apply the techniques to their research problems and accurately interpret the results.
  • Limited use of formulas, equations, Greek symbols, and similar notations makes it easy to understand concepts.
  • Rules of Thumb in every chapter provide practical guidelines on best practices in applying and interpreting PLS-SEM and in preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • The same case and database is used throughout the book to facilitate consistency in the issues associated with the case.
  • Free online resources include downloadable data sets and SmartPLS projects to practice techniques covered.

The Authors

Joseph F. Hair, Jr. is professor of marketing, DBA director, and the Cleverdon Chair of Business in the Mitchell College of Business, University of South Alabama. He previously was senior scholar, DBA Program, in the Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, and held the Copeland Endowed Chair of Entrepreneurship and was director of the Entrepreneurship Institute in the Ourso College of Business Administration, Louisiana State University. He has authored over 60 books, including Multivariate Data Analysis (7th ed., 2010), MKTG (10th ed., 2016), Essentials of Business Research Methods (2016), and Essentials of Marketing Research (4th ed., 2017). He also has published numerous articles in scholarly journals and was recognized as the Academy of Marketing Science marketing educator of the year. A popular guest speaker, Professor Hair often presents seminars on research tech¬niques, multivariate data analysis, and marketing issues for organi¬zations in Europe, Australia, China, India, and South America.
Marko Sarstedt is chaired professor of marketing at the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg (Germany) and conjoint professor at the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Newcastle (Australia). He previously was an assistant professor of quantitative methods in marketing and management at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (Germany). His main research is in the application and advancement of structural equation modeling methods to further the understanding of consumer behavior and to improve marketing decision making. His research has been pub¬lished in journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Organizational Research Methods, MIS Quarterly, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Long Range Planning, Journal of World Business, and Journal of Business Research. According to the Handelsblatt rank¬ing, Professor Sarstedt is among the top three young academic marketing researchers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. He regularly teaches doctoral seminars on multivariate statistics, struc¬tural equation modeling, and measurement worldwide.
Christian M. Ringle is a chaired professor of management at the Hamburg University of Technology (Germany) and a conjoint professor at the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Newcastle (Australia). He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Kansas and received a PhD from the University of Hamburg (Germany). His widely published research addresses the management of organizations, strategic and human resource management, marketing, and quantitative methods for business and market research. He is a cofounder of SmartPLS, a software tool with graphical user interface for the application of the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method. Besides supporting consultancies and international corporations, he regularly teaches doctoral seminars on multi¬variate statistics, the PLS-SEM method, and the use of SmartPLS. More information about Professor Ringle and his full list of publications can be found at http://www.tuhh.de/hrmo/team/prof-dr-c-m-ringle.html.
Siegfried P. Gudergan is a chaired professor of strategy at Newcastle Business School in the University of Newcastle (Australia). He previ¬ously was head of school and professor of marketing at UTS Business School in the University of Technology, Sydney (Australia). He holds a PhD from the Australian Graduate School of Management that was awarded by both the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales. His research focuses on managerial decision mak¬ing and is applied to strategic management issues. Some of his work that concerns PLS-SEM has appeared in journals such as the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Long Range Planning, and Journal of Business Research. He has been the primary advisor for doctoral students who have been awarded, for example, an honor¬able mention as finalist for the Dissertation Award of the Academy of Management’s Business Policy & Strategy Division and the Best PhD Paper Award by the Strategic Management Society.
